Replacing an ABB ACH 550 VFD with an ACH 580
Do you need to replace the entire ABB ACH 550 VFD drive panel in the event of a failure or can you reuse the Eclipse bypass with the new ABB ACH 580 VFD?
The ABB ACH 580 VFD will work with the existing Eclipse Bypass if you configure it properly. ABB Tech support can help you adjust the correct parameters within the system to make it work properly.
The ABB ACH 550 VFD is a popular drive for HVAC systems due to it’s flexibility and ease of setup but is being replaced with the newer ABB ACH 580 VFD. There are many systems that use the Eclipse bypass as part of the VFD setup.
VFDs are often used on air handlers as part of static pressure control or in hot or chilled water systems to control pump speed and pressure. A VFD gives flexibility to the system and helps to make it much more efficient.
ABB is discontinuing the manufacturer of the ACH 550 and is focusing more on the newer series of their products. There are a lot of systems in the field that still use the ABB ACH 550 along with the Eclipse bypass. In the event of a VFD failure, the Eclipse bypass can give you the ability to run the motor without the ability to vary speed.
Hi,
Thanks for the content you are posting, this is helpful. I was wondering if you would allow teachers to use some of your content in a classroom, directly from your YouTube channel, especially the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsGkixTS8Z4. I prefered to ask permission before using it.
Thanks,
Yes, feel free to use the video.
